Honor 7X launched: My opinion!

Huawei Honor has launched its new smartphone called the Honor 7X.

How is it different than other smartphones in its segment? Let’s find out!

So let’s start with the basic specifications of this smartphone.

Beginning with the external specifications, the display is a 5.93 inches 18:9 Honor Full HD+ display having a resolution 2160 x 1080 pixels. Coming to the dimensions, it is 156.5 mm (L)  X 75.3 mm (W) X 7.6 mm (T) and has a weight of 165 gms. First impressions on hearing this, awesome!

Such an awesome display should be powered by a powerful processor. So this device is powered by a Kirin 659 64-bit processor  which is an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.36 GHz. The graphic processor is a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU. Honestly? Blown off after hearing the clock speed of this processor!

Talking about the RAM and ROM, this phone will be equipped with a 4 GB DDR4 RAM and two storage variants i.e. 32 GB and 64 GB. You also get a Micro-SD Card support and it is expandable to up to 256 GB using a hybrid SIM Card Slot.

Let’s now talk about the camera, shall we? Starting with the rear camera, you get a dual camera setup having 16 MP and 2 MP sensors at a wide aperture range from f/0.95 to f/1.6. So you will be able to capture those famous Portrait Modes which everyone is fascinating about in dual camera smartphones.  The front camera is an 8 MP sensor so I feel you’ll be able to capture your selfies well.

The smartphone comes with a 3,340 mAh battery but I don’t think there is any support for fast charging. The software is the same EMUI 5.1 running on Android 7.0 Nougat. Hope Honor provides proper software updates and security patches to this device. Not sure when they will update to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Coming to the connectivity part, you will get you Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, etc. and also there is a new feature in this smartphone called Wi-Fi Bridge which lets your smartphone to act as a Wi-Fi Router and can connect up to 4 devices and share the available Wi-Fi which is the source of internet for your smartphone.

Also this smartphone is IP67 rated i.e. water and dust resistant. I don’t think I have ever come across this rating for a smartphone of this budget. Well Done Honor!

Now since I don’t have any hands-on experience with this smartphone, I cannot really say whether are these specifications are good for this price. But from other websites mention that this smartphone comes with a fair bit of bloatware apps which include some demo versions of some games. Also, they say the camera is an average performer which for me is a bit shocking considering the specifications.

Let’s talk pricing. The 4 GB RAM, 32 GB ROM variant is priced at Rs.12,999/- and the 4 GB RAM, 64 GB ROM variant is priced at Rs.15,999/- and is exclusively available on Amazon from 14th December, 2017 12 PM onward.

In conclusion, from the specifications of this device, I feel this is a fair deal for this kind of a smartphone. There are some pros like the IP67 rating, the processor and RAM, etc. but there are a few cons like the EMUI Software, lack of quick charging, etc. but if you’re willing to compromise these features, then I feel this is a good deal of features you’re being offered on this device.
